Black Inventors Hall of Fame Museum
Newark, New Jersey
The Black Inventors Hall of Fame Museum and STEAM Center transforms an existing building into a multi-level cultural and educational institution celebrating the legacy of Black inventors while creating pathways for future generations in science, technology, engineering, architecture, and math. Developed as a joint venture between BrandNu Design Studio and AKT Designs LLC, the project integrates museum galleries, STEAM learning environments, flexible community spaces, and public programming within a dynamic adaptive reuse framework.
The design introduces a central atrium carved through the existing structure to strengthen visual connectivity, improve circulation, and bring daylight deep into the interior. Additional interventions include rooftop activation spaces, upgraded vertical circulation, and transparent ground-floor elements that strengthen the building’s connection to the surrounding community. The project reflects a broader design approach focused on cultural identity, education, public engagement, and long-term community impact.
