2026 AIA Whitney M. Young Jr. Award

The American Institute of Architects named Michael Ford, FAIA, NOMA the 2026 recipient of the Whitney M. Young Jr. Award, presented on the mainstage at AIA26 in San Diego. Established in 1972 and named for the civil rights leader who challenged architects to confront social issues, the award recognizes an architect whose work advances equity, access, and community. AIA presents it to one recipient a year. In more than fifty years, fewer than sixty architects and organizations have received it.

That same year, AIA elevated Ford to the College of Fellows. Fellowship is the highest honor the Institute confers on an individual member, awarded for contributions to architecture and society at the national level. Fewer than three percent of AIA members hold it.
