Samburu Girls Foundation
Maralal, Kenya
BrandNu Design Studio and The Hip Hop Architecture Camp partnered with the Samburu Girls Foundation and the University of Wisconsin to help bring clean drinking water to more than 200 young women living and studying at the foundation’s campus in Kenya.
Founded by Dr. Josephine Kulea, the Samburu Girls Foundation provides girls an alternative path away from harmful cultural practices while creating opportunities through education, safety, and leadership development.
Working alongside rapper Lupe Fiasco and singer Nikki Jean, BrandNu Design Studio helped connect the project with Zero Mass Water, where Lupe Fiasco served on the company’s board. The partnership helped secure support for the installation of SOURCE Hydropanels on the foundation’s campus.
Before the installation, students and staff often walked nearly two miles to collect water from the nearest river. In 2018, the partnership installed 40 SOURCE Hydropanels, providing a reliable source of safe drinking water and supporting a healthier learning environment for the students and staff at the foundation.
