Village on Park Mural

Madison, Wisconsin

BrandNu Design Studio was commissioned by the City of Madison to create a large-scale mural celebrating the trailblazing residents of the South Madison community. The work honors individuals whose leadership, advocacy, and service have shaped the neighborhood’s identity and future.

The mural features a vibrant textile-inspired pattern layered with portraits of impactful community members, transforming the parking structure into a cultural landmark. Featured on the mural are Wayne Strong, Earsie Green, Alfonso Studesville Jr., Lori Mann-Carey, and Ilda Thomas. Together, the composition reflects resilience, legacy, and collective pride.

The design process translated personal histories into pattern and form. Letterforms from the names of community members were abstracted into geometric shapes, generating a textile field that serves as the mural’s foundation. These elements were refined into a cohesive composition that balances abstraction with portraiture, allowing individual stories to emerge within a unified visual language.

The result is a bold civic artwork that connects architecture, community memory, and contemporary design.
