WCCCD NORTHWEST CAMPUS
Detroit, Michigan
As a key team member at Hamilton Anderson Associates, Michael Ford contributed to the design and documentation of the new 100,000-square-foot multi-use building for the Wayne County Community College District in Detroit, Michigan. Working on the project from Conceptual Design through Construction Administration, Ford helped create a flagship facility designed to accommodate rapid enrollment growth and unify the campus through the creation of a new central greenspace.
The facility features state-of-the-art classrooms, faculty offices, and a health and wellness center. A core component of the design was the development of a "one-stop shop" student services wing—streamlining Admissions, Advising, Assessment, Student Accounts, and Financial Aid into a single accessible location.
A model of sustainable design and the District’s commitment to "green collar" job creation, the project achieved LEED Platinum certification in 2014. Key sustainability features include a green roof, bio-retention basins, storm water retention strategies, and a geothermal wall. The project has received numerous accolades, including the 2014 AIA Michigan Design Award.
